| Fairfield: Evolution of a Migrant City |
Dr. Stephen Gapps |
|
|
This history documents the story of migration and settlement in Fairfield from its Indigenous beginnings to our present day ‘city of migrant’. It outlines when different communities settled in Fairfield in the wider context of migration to NSW and the regional development of the area. The history seeks to uncover why Fairfield has been a magnet for migrants - for many more years that we might think.

| Fairfield - A History of the District |
Vance George |
$30.00 |
|
The history of the Fairfield District does not emanate from a simple, single set of circumstances like the beginning of many settlements in the NSW colony. Vance George was born in Liverpool, NSW in 1925 and educated at Auburn North Public School and Granville Technical College. In 1978 he accepted a commission from Fairfield City Council to write the collected history of Fairfield's Local Government Area. The book is a great resource for finding information about Fairfield's development as a City. It covers a broad range of subjects from the outbreak of World War II to the Ethnic Communities of Fairfield City.

| Fairfield: A Pictorial History |
Brenda Pittard |
$8.00 |
|
This book was written to commemorate Fairfield's first one hundred years as a municipality. The selection of photographs was made from the collection of Fairfield Central Library, from the Fairfield Advance and some from private collections and is an attempt to provide a pictorial overview of the development and character of the district from its earliest days. Obviously there are many events which were never recorded pictorially, or photographs have been lost. The aim of this book is to present as complete a record as possible from the sources available.

'Vicious and Rebellious?': Life at the Male Orphan School, Sydney & Liverpool, 1819-1850
|
Fiona Starr &
Rebecca Wheller
|
$10.00 |
|
This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition '...vicious and rebellious?': Life at the Male Orphan School, Sydney & Liverpool, 1819-1850. '
'...vicious and rebellious'?: Life at the Male Orphan School, Sydney & Liverpool , 1819-1850 is an exhibition developed by Fairfield City Museum & Gallery in association with over 30 descendants of the orphans, staff and assigned convicts who lived at the Male Orphan School in Sydney and Liverpool between 1819 and 1850. Our understanding about life in the Male Orphan School comes mainly from official reports. Although some of these imply living conditions for the boys at the school, very few reports from the boys or assigned convicts are available to us. It is with this in mind that we must review the evidence provided in official reports, and be careful not to always accept these observations of the authorities at face value.

Foundations of Faith - Christian
Churches in the Fairfield Area
|
Beverley Donald |
$30.00 |
|
Church services have been part of the life of the Fairfield area for almost 160 years. As Smithfield, the first town in the Fairfield area, began to grow people were quick to start church services, holding them in houses and even under gum trees. Foundations of Faith looks at the history of most of the hundred plus churches that have been established in the area over this time.
Part of the story of the churches lies in the activities carried on within the churches and this book also looks at these, taking many of us back to our younger days, when the church was often a focal point of the social life in a district.
