Fairfield City Council’s Community Cultural Development Grant program aims to encourage and support the creative based initiatives of artists and communities. The awarded projects must address Fairfield City Council’s priorities, which have been developed from Council’s Cultural Plan and State of the Community Report.
One off grants of up to $4000 are available to groups or organisations planning creative-based projects that involve local communities and make a contribution to the quality of life in Fairfield City.

What types of projects have been funded before?
Projects funded in 2009
Fairfield City Council received 30 applications to its’ Community Cultural Development Grant Program in 2009. The standard of applications was excellent this year, making the selection of grants recipients particularly tough for the grants selection Committee. The successful applicants in this year include:
Immigrant Women’s Health Service $4,000, Women’s Journey, Ceramic Creation in Cabramatta
A skill building ceramic mural project which explores the cultural diversity of local women of migrant and refugee backgrounds.
Wareabouts, $4000, Performance Arts for Mental Wellbeing
A youth theatre project which will utilise arts activities to explore the issue of health and wellbeing amongst young people.
Philippine-Australian Community Services (PACSI), $4000, Cultural Dance Exchange Program
A cultural exchange project with the aim of promoting and strengthening cultural heritage by learning and sharing traditional dances between two South East Asian countries, Philippines and Laos.
Western Sydney Dance Action (WSDA), $3200 Westbound
A project with young people from local high schools that provides dance development workshops in a dance company situation.
Australian Foundation for Disability (AFFORD), $4000 Cultural Diversity from a Family Carer’s Perspective
A creative writing project with local carers of people with a disability.
Parks Community Network Inc. (SOS), $3,700, Success Over Substance (SOS)
An art project with a focus on encouraging young people to express their views and explore the underlying triggers for excessive drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Cambodian-Australian Welfare Council (CAWC), $4,000, Me and My Parents
A project exploring the importance of social skills for young people through the process of film making.
Mandean Women’s Union of Australia, $3,100, Mandaean Women Create!
A cultural maintenance project which brings women in the Mandaean community from all ages together to develop their creative skills.
Projects funded in 2008
Assyrian Australian Association - Tasa Tiyeh (Youth DVD)
To produce a DVD, targeting newly arrived Assyrian youth and mainstream services. It will engage young people, through the consultation and development of material for interviews, as well as acting in skits for the topics covered on the video.
Cabramatta Community Centre - Young People in Harmony
To develop strong relationships between CALD young people and their community by producing five artworks for permanent public display at Mt Pritchard Cabramatta Community Centre.
Candombe Yauguru - Celebrating International Day of Candombe
The project aims to organise 16 workshops to teach children and young people from culturally diverse backgrounds the traditional skills behind Uruguayan music and dance. The objective is to enable the participants to partake in International Day of Candombe.
Fairfield School as Community Centre - Weaving our Stories
This project aims to run 10 visual art workshops with refugee women to develop relationships and skills capacities. The project will culminate in an exhibition of the work produced.
Health and Arts Research Centre - The Heart Speaks
To improve the health and wellbeing of Fairfield residents at high risk of cardiovascular disease, through the identification and promotion of successful healthy life change among Vietnamese, Arabic, Spanish speaking communities.
Fairfield Immigrant Women's Health Service - Message to Refugee Women
The project aims to make bags and home decorations. These decorations will be made by a group of migrant women from Fairfield Immigrant Health Services. The art and craft project will showcase in an exhibition to be organised for the 21st Anniversary of IWHS.
Karitane - Aboriginal Women’s Healing Weekend
To provide an opportunity for Aboriginal women to share a three day weekend with their children, their elders and Karitane Aboriginal staff. The weekend will be held at The Healing House in Picton NSW. The aim is to provide the women of Fairfield (Karitane Lil Possums Playground) workshops designed for and by local Aboriginal women.
Lao Community Advancement NSW Co-op Ltd - Cultural and Religious Celebrations
The aim of the project is to produce a book with Lao community which documents the cultural significance and rituals of the different faiths within the Lao community in Fairfield LGA. The book will be written in Lao and English
Powerhouse Youth Theatre - Wareabouts
The project aims to establish a resident youth street theatre and performance ensemble in Fairfield, and to provide opportunities for young people to be involved in creative and other skills development initiatives.

Parks Community Network Hooked Up Project
A project which promotes awareness and understanding about peer pressure and bullying through workshops and a visual arts exhibition.
Triumphant International: 2007 Triumphant Refugee Workshop Project
A film/documentary project which targets local refugees. Films will promote the triumphs of refugees and to promote cultural religious and racial harmony.
Rumble Movies Project Group: Maximum Chopage 2
A martial arts film titled “Maximum Choppage 2” with young local filmmakers from the Fairfield LGA and to combat negative images of youths living in Western Sydney areas, in particular Cabramatta.
The New Australians: Butterfly Effect.
Traditional Vietnamese Kite making project with a focus on local children with special needs. Skills transfer will be provided to parents’ and carers.
Baghdad Theatre Group: Home for Sale
A written play about Iraq with the Iraqi community living in Fairfield. The play will focus on hope for local people hearing of hardship in their homeland and of creating a new home in Australia.
Sliced Bread Attraction
Creative workshops series that will highlight the culture and identity of Fairfield based people with a disability.
Fairfield Mental Health Network:
Creative workshop project for newly arrived young people from Africa within the LGA which incorporate discussions about cultural values, health and wellbeing.
Fairfield Immigrant and Refugee Women’s’ Network:
One-day festival event with a focus on women from emerging and established communities in Fairfield.
Assyrian Australian Association:
Youth-oriented art based (writing, acting, theatre) initiative that provides workshops to Australian-Assyrians living in Fairfield.
Casa De Teatro:
Drama workshops for the Spanish speaking community of Fairfield which focuses on young and older people who are socially and culturally isolated
