Artcloth: Engaging New Visions

29 August 2009 - 11 October 2009

Curated by Marie-Therese Wisniowski.

This exhibition wil be opened at 2.00pm Saturday 29 August by Joan Truckenbrod, Professor of Art & Technology, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA.

The ArtCloth movement considers the use of cloth as an art medium. Techniques used include dyeing, shibori, melt-off, discharge, batik, printing, and digital imaging to create cloth of rich visual depth and complexity. This is a movement gaining significant momentum in England, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Australia and North America. Marie-Therese Wisniowski, the Curator of this exhibition was able to engage a group of 20 enthusiastic and prestigious international Artists who are at the cutting edge of Art Cloth. It is first at the Fairfield City Museum and Gallery. It will then travel around Australia.

From Art to You

11 July 2009 - 23 August 2009 

 
Opening 2.00pm - 4.00pm Saturday 11 July with Guest Speaker Diana Robson - Curator of Hawkesbury Regional Gallery.

A group of seven Western Sydney artists who have been meeting over the past year to discuss and inspire each other in producing new works for this exhibition. A Masterclass will be held in conjunction with this exhibition for local professional artists and stimulate and explore their practice.

A Conversation with Rain

Official opening by Louise Mitchell on Saturday 23rd May at 1.30pm.
A national innovative contemporary textile exhibition to stimulate and inspire the artists. A challenge has been sent out to artists to develop new and innovative textile artworks.  This exhibition will involve works that address environmental issues.  This exhibition is curated by internationally recognised textile artist Helen Lancaster and involves thirty selected contemporary textile artists from all over Australia.

Artists in their Studios
4 April 2009 - 17 May 2009
To be opened by Nicholas Tsoutas, Friday 17 April at 6pm.
The exhibition consists of studying ten local artists as they develop a new work for the exhibition. The exhibition will feature a picture of the artists in their studios, three photos of the artwork in different stages of development and the final work will be on display with their portraits taken by local photographer Danny Huynh.

Assyrian Australian Association: Textile Exhibition

29 September 2009 - 11 October 2009 

To be opened by Smithfield MP Ninos Khoshaba on Saturday 3 October at 3.00pm.

This textile exhibition will showcase magnificent artworks produced by women of the Assyrian Australian Association meeting each week at Fairfield. It will be a good opportunity to see their unique work.

ARTICULATION is an exhibition showcasing artists affected by a brain injury. Part of their personal development program, the exhibition will run during the Brain Injury Awareness Week (from 20 September 2009)

Local artist and art teacher Linda Brescia will showcase her latest artworks combining textile photography and painting.  She will present her humoristic sculptures that she places in unexpected places!

Colouring Our Stories

To be opened by Lorraine Maggs, Vice President of Fairfield City Art Society, Friday 5 June at 6pm.
Colouring Our Stories is an exhibition in our community space.  It is a community development textile exhibition by local refugee women resulting from 10 visual arts workshops for the refugee women run by Fairfield Primary School with the assistance of Fairfield City Council Cultural Grants Program.
 
   
Juan Gimenez

Opening Friday 17th April starting at 6pm.
This exhibition will feature the talented local artist from Uruguay, who works in a variety of media, including painting, installations, print media and collage. He has been involved in collective and independant projects and has exhibited in Australia as well as overseas.

Stan Florek: White Condor

Exhibition by local artist. He will showcase his works on paper.  Stan's drawings grow from curiosity and affinity with different people, lands and cultures.  The force of seasons and environment fascinate him as much as the drama of human existence. His favourite media include oil, charcoal, pastel and etching.

Have you always wanted to learn about pastels?

Nika Norman, recognezed local art teacher, will teach you the basics of pastels and provide you with techniques to create your own works of art.   All materials provided.
