  • Free access computers. A maximum of 8 hours per week per person is available on these computers. Chat services, email, ecommerce or online games are not part of the free internet access service.

  • User pays Internet access. A user pays service is available for a small fee and gives you access to the Internet for email, chat groups, business transactions, online games and detailed research.

  • Computer classes. From time to time the Fairfield City Library runs Internet classes at a very reasonable cost. Check with your local branch or watch the Library News Page.

Before using our computers please familiarise yourself with our Code of Conduct and Internet Policy.

    Wireless Hotspot Service

The library offers a wireless hotspot service for a small fee for those people who would like to connect to the internet at the library using their own laptop.

We also have designated areas where you can access power if required.

This will be available at all the branches except Smithfield.

Access cards only cost $5.00 each and you can access the internet for 24 hours.

    Interlibrary Loans

If we dont hold the item you need, we may be able to borrow it from another library for you! Items not held by us may be obtained from another library free, however charges may apply under the following circumstances -

  • Lost or damaged items.Charges will be determined by the Interlibrary Loans Officer.
  • Libraries not bound to an agreement.
  • Libraries outside the public library system will usually levy a charge if they agree to loan us an item on your behalf.

If this occurs we will seek your consent and acceptance of any charges before we proceed with the loan. In addition to this there is sometimes an optional Fast Track Service (within 24 hours) available. This will cost $18.00, and regretably we will have to pass this cost onto the client.

    Housebound Readers Service

If you can't get to the library for medical reasons we will come to you!

Fairfield City Library Service provides a dedicated Housebound Readers Service to our elderly and disabled members who reside within the Fairfield Local Government Area. Each fortnight our staff select some items based on your preferences and David (our driver) will deliver these to your home. This ensures that every member of the community has access to library materials.

The only requirement is a  certificate from your GP to indicate that you are housebound, either temporarily or permanently.

    Formats include:
  • Normal and Large Print Books
  • Audio Books
  • Videos
  • DVD's
  • Magazines

Every year we host a Christmas party for our housebound patrons. This is where you can meet other patrons in similar circumstances to yourself, as well as say hello to the library staff.

It's alway nice to be able to put a face to a voice on the phone!
