Household Recycling Service

Council provides each domestic household with a light green wheelie bin that has a yellow lid. This recycling bin is collected every two weeks on the same day as your garbage bin.

You can download a handy flyer below that summarises how to use your recycling bin correctly.  Print it out and stick it on your fridge for easy reference.

How to use the recycling bin

  • Rinse containers
  • Remove lids from all bottles and jars
  • Remove lids and squash all plastic bottles
  • Remove recycling from plastic bags before putting it into the bin
  • Do not put plastic bags in the recycling bin, put them into the garbage bin

What CAN go into the recycling bin

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminium cans
  • Steel cans and aerosols
  • Paper, newspaper and magazines
  • Cardboard
  • Liquid paperboard (milk and juice cartons)
  • Plastic bottles and containers with the numbered recycling symbol – numbers 1 to 7

What CANNOT go into the recycling bin

  • Broken glass
  • Garden waste
  • Food scraps
  • Plastic bags
  • Nappies
  • Pizza boxes
  • Building waste
  • Car parts
  • Plastic motor oil containers
  • Plastic toys
  • Plastic household items
  • Syringes and medical waste, including dialysis equipment
  • Clothing
  • Ceramics or ovenware
  • Gas cylinders
  • Batteries

 

Recycling bin inspections
Council undertakes regular inspections of recycling bins. Any recycling bin that is found to contain garbage, garden waste, food scraps, nappies, building waste, car parts, plastic toys, plastic household items, syringes, clothing or gas cylinders will not be collected.
