MS Moves Program (Multiple Sclerosis Moves Program)

"MS Move" is a community based physical activity program which aims to help everyone with MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS in our community. Wednesday and Friday 9:30 - 10:30 am For 40 weeks - Cost $5 p/session

MS_Moves_FlyerThe main objective of MS moves is to assist MS community in the following areas:

  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Flexibility
  • Muscle control and strength
  • Functional body movements
  • Social interaction
  • Positive mind

These objectives can be achieved by implementing the following types of exercise:

  • Cardiovascular exercise, low to moderate intensity, targeting a large number of muscles.
  • Resistance exercise, using body weight and free weight, to strength a wide range of muscles, to increase endurance.
  • Warm up & warm down range of exercise.

In addition MS Moves will also assist our MS community in the management of other chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, Osteoporosis, Arthritis and others.

The overall benefit of exercise in MS are many. It may contribute to:

  • Alleviate symptoms of the disease
  • Improve quality of life
  • Improve cardiovascular fitness
  • Reduce levels of fatigue
  • Cardiovascular fitness may help with preserving brain functions.
  • Improve posture, flexibility, coordination and balance.
  • Improve symptoms of depression.
  • Improve strength in the lower and upper limbs
  • Improve ability to continue to participate in functional activities
  • Improved posture and movement control
  • Balance exercises may help to reduce rate of falling
  • Improved feeling of wellbeing
  • Produces beneficial protein which protects against infection
  • Has a potential role in neuroprotection
  • Positive impact on the progression of disability as well as quality of life
