Work Experience


If you are looking at starting your career, an Apprenticeship is a great way to receive training and skills while you are working.  An apprenticeship has a duration of up to four years, during which time you will get hands on experience with qualified tradespeople and you will also receive training at TAFE. At the end of the apprenticeship you will obtain a TAFE Trade Certificate IV in your chosen field.

Apprenticeships are offered in the areas of:

  • Electrician
  • Green Keeping
  • Horticulture
  • Mechanic (vehicle/trucks)
  • Plumbing
  • Signwriting

Apprentices are employed through HVTC Skillswest and the NSW Group Training Organisations.

Volunteering is part of building a caring community and being a volunteer can be a rewarding and valuable experience.

Council is currently seeking members of the community to sign up for its 2020 Volunteer Register to help bolster our City's volunteer numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fairfield City Council also offers volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

Events such as Bring It On! Festival, Culinary Carnivale, Illuminate, Lunar New Year and the Cabramatta Moon Festival.

Environmental groups include volunteering at our Nursery Volunteer Day, Fairfield Indigenous Flora Park, Fairfield Creeks and Wetlands Group, Cabramatta Creek Flying Fox Committee and the Sartor Bushcare Group.

Museum and Gallery
Volunteers may assist with events such as the Living Cultures Festival, One Night at the Museum, Halloween at the Museum and the Primary School Education Program.

Open Libraries
Volunteers would assist with library programs.
