Rural Area - Land Use Planning Issues
The Rural areas (Horsley Park & Cecil Park) of Fairfield have been subject to growing pressures as a result of the State Government's planning for expansion of the Western Sydney Employment Lands (including proposed arterial roads through the area) and by the Federal Government's decision to proceed with Sydney's second airport at Badgerys Creek.
Council has engaged consultants to undertake a land capability study that responds to the designation of the Fairfield Rural Lands as an Urban Investigation Area under the Greater Sydney Region Plan and the Western City District Plan, released by the Greater Sydney Commission in 2018.
The land capability study will review development opportunities and constraints over rural lands and provide direction and recommendations as to the future development and planning framework for rural lands within Fairfield City. It is anticipated that the initial findings of the land capability study will become available in the second half of 2018.Landowners and the community will be advised of updates and community participation opportunities through the various stages of the project.
