In 2016, the NSW Government introduced fire safety reforms under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Fire Safety and Building Certification) Regulation 2017.

This regulation requires a building owner to issue a :

  • fire safety certificate (for fire safety measures installed as part of new building work); and
  • annual fire safety statement (for maintenance of fire safety measures in existing buildings) using approved forms.
