Becoming an Australian Citizen

Citizenship

Members of the community interested in becoming Australian Citizens should telephone the Department of Immigration and Citizenship on 13 18 81.

Once citizenship applications have been processed, a Citizenship Certificate is sent to Fairfield City Council for presentation at a Citizenship Ceremony.

Fairfield City Council hosts monthly citizenship ceremonies for about 100 residents, who come together from many countries and now call Australia home. The ceremonies are generally conducted at the Council Chambers, 86 Avoca Road, Wakeley, at 7.30pm.

The presentation of the Citizenship Certificate is the final step to becoming an Australian Citizen.

An Electoral Form is also completed at the Ceremony, so names of new citizens can be added to the Electoral Roll.

For more information about Citizenship Ceremonies, please telephone Council on 9725 0222.
