Council Elections

Under the Local Government Act 1993, Council elections are held on the second Saturday in September every four years.

Councils can conduct their own elections or elections can be conducted by the NSW electoral Commission.

Fairfield City Council determined on Tuesday 11 December 2018 that it will be conducting its own election and this will be held in September 2020.  The Council resolution is as follows:

That:

1.    Pursuant to Section 296AA(1)(b) of the Local Government Act, the General Manager/City Manager administer all elections on behalf of Fairfield City Council in September 2020.

2.    Council notes (pursuant to Section 296AA 2(a)) that the General Manager/City Manager intends to engage an electoral services provider to assist with the administration of the elections.

3.    Council notes (pursuant to Section 296AA 2(c)) that no electoral services provider has yet been identified by the General Manager/City Manager. 

4.    The General Manager/City Manager take the necessary steps to engage an electoral services provider to assist with the administration of the elections.
