Trucks in Residential Streets

Under Rule 200 of the Australian Road Rules, heavy vehicles (4.5 tonnes or more GVM) or long vehicles (7.5 metres or longer) must not stop on a length of road in a built-up area for longer than one hour unless engaged in loading or unloading or some other lawful purpose (buses excepted).

A built-up area, in relation to a length of road, means an area in which either of the following is present for a distance of at least 500 metres or, if the length of road is shorter than 500 metres, for the whole road:

a)  buildings, not over 100 metres apart, on land next to the road,
b)  street lights not over 100 metres apart.

Council’s Enforcement Officers and NSW Police may issue "on the spot" fines for heavy or long vehicles parked in a built-up area for more than 1 hour.

For more information on heavy vehicle restrictions in residential areas, refer to Regulation 200 of the Australian Road Rules.
