Council’s Administration Centre and Council Chambers
Tonight, I ask Councillors to recommit to retaining Council’s Administration Centre and Council Chambers at Avoca Rd, Wakeley.
In December 2016, I received a Question to the Mayor by a Councillor and I’m aware that much discussion has taken place on the possibility of moving the Administration Centre or Council Chambers to the Fairfield Central Business District.
At the last election no party or individual went to the people of Fairfield City with a proposal or policy of moving the Administration Centre or Council Chambers.
The objective of this Mayoral Minute is to state publically Council’s position on the matter. I want to make sure these issues are transparent and that the community can be confident our focus will remain on delivering services and infrastructure. It is my view that any change would have a significant impact on our community.
It’s important that Councillors clearly state their position on Council’s Administration Centre and Council Chambers, which is located centrally in the City.
Council’s Open Libraries Program now means that residents can perform most of Council services, such as paying rates or reporting problems at our libraries, which are located in all our major shopping centres across the City. Fairfield Library will commence providing Council services from April this year.
- I move that Council recommit to retaining the existing Council’s Administration Centre and Council Chambers at Avoca Road, Wakeley, which is centrally located in the City and to its residents; and
- That instead Council continues to focus its efforts on spending funds on community services and infrastructure.
