Fast train and annual toll pass for M7

Fast train and annual toll pass for M7
Tonight, I ask Councillors to support me in writing to Federal and State Government, including our local members advocating for a fast train connection alongside the M7 and the need to establish an annual pass for frequent users of motorways.
Firstly, there is a need for better north - south connections across Western and South West Sydney. The State and Federal Governments are currently looking for infrastructure projects in Western and South West Sydney through the Greater Sydney Commission and the recently announced City Deals.
Almost 60 per cent of residents travel outside our City daily, with the majority travelling to the Sydney CBD, Parramatta and Liverpool.
I am proposing a fast train connection be considered along the M7, linking cities such as Fairfield, Liverpool and Campbelltown, to the proposed fast train between Sydney and Parramatta and the future rail link to the Western Sydney Airport.
This would have enormous economic and social benefits for the region, as well as our City. It would reduce travel time so that people could spend more time with their families.
A rail line along the M7 would take years to plan and build, so in the interim I am also asking that an annual pass be established which would discount and cap fees for motorists who frequently use motorways to get to work.
The cost of using the motorways is substantial and places a large burden on workers that use tolls daily. The Government previously provided discounted passes to people who frequently used trains and buses.
Tolls on the M7 continue to go up and tolls will soon be reintroduced on the M4. The cost of tolls is unfairly borne by motorists and families in Western and South Western Sydney, costing families thousands of dollars a year.
I move that Council write to the Federal and State Government, including local members:
•    Advocating for a fast train connection alongside the M7 and other motorways, linking Cities such as Fairfield, Liverpool and Campbelltown to the proposed Sydney and Parramatta fast train and the future rail link to the Western Sydney Airport; and
•    Advocate that an annual pass be established, discounting and capping fees for motorists who use motorways every day to get to work, reducing the cost burden for living in stem and South West Sydney.
