Cultural activities for all ages and abilities

A range of new activities for people of all ages and abilities will soon begin at Fairfield City Museum & Gallery.
Adult art classes, social knitting, an interactive group heritage experience and an accessible art program will begin from late July.
“Fairfield City Museum & Gallery continues to provide exciting cultural experiences for people from all walks of life, acting as a cultural magnet for our City,” said Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone.
“The programs are designed to engage the community and support an inclusive and liveable city for everyone.”
The latest activities are in addition to the ongoing exhibitions including Shanasheel, Cabracadabra and Ngarunga Gurubadu: Stories of River & Water.
This eight week workshop series is open to people living with a disability. Each week participants will work on a different art or craft, such as origami, collage or painting.
Fridays 10.30am – 12pm, 28 July – 15 September (Term 3)
Cost: $40 per term; materials supplied
Spin A Yarn: Social Knitting Group
Drop in on Saturdays during the six week period to meet, mingle and swap yarns with fellow knitters. Compare patterns, share techniques and knit creative pieces.
Saturdays 1pm – 3pm, 29 July – 2 September
Cost: Free; all skill levels welcome
Adult Art Classes
This four week course provides attendees with a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to basic principles of acrylic painting. Discovering how to plan a simple composition, participants will paint realistic landscapes from photographs.
Wednesdays 10.30am – 12.30pm, 9 August – 30 August
Cost: $60 per person; materials supplied, all skill levels welcome
Memory Box: Interactive Group Heritage Experience
Share stories or reflect on life experiences in this immersive program, giving people living with dementia and seniors the opportunity to explore the Vintage Village and objects from Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s historical collection.
Wednesdays 10.30am – 12pm
Cost: $5 per participant; offered to groups by appointment only and includes morning tea.
