Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone presents artwork to Cabramatta High School students

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone yesterday presented Cabramatta High School with artwork produced by students at Council’s Youth Leadership Day on 29 June 2017.

The artwork is a replica of Picasso’s masterpiece, Girl Before A Mirror (1932), which was painted as part of a team building exercise during the Youth Leadership Day.

“Cabramatta High students were active participants of the event,” Mayor Carbone said.

Funded and organised as part of Council’s Youth Mentoring Program, students joined in a range of activities to bring out their leadership skills and learn the value of teamwork.

“I’m proud of the grade 10, 11 and 12 students from schools across our City who put their hand up to get involved, which demonstrates their aspiration to grow as individuals and leaders,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Our Youth Leadership Day received overwhelming positive feedback from students and schools and validates the importance of Council connecting with our City’s young people to encourage personal and career growth, which also benefits our City’s future.”

“I was honoured to visit Cabramatta High School to present students who participated in our recent Youth Leadership Day with the artwork they helped to create.”

Cabramatta High School principal Elizabeth Goodwin said she appreciated Council’s dedication to supporting the youth community through regular events and workshops.

“It’s encouraging to me as a principal to know that both inside and outside of the classroom, students that live in Fairfield City are given a multitude of opportunities to become great leaders,” Ms Goodwin said.

“I’m thankful to Fairfield City Council for their ongoing support for our local youth community and look forward to hearing more positive news from any students attending Council’s next youth-focussed workshop or event.”

Council’s Youth Leadership Day was held at the Fairfield City Council Chambers and included engaging guest speeches from Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone and professional adventurer James Casstrision.
