Twilight art event to captivate visitors
Published Wednesday, 23rd August 2017
One Night at the Museum, the annual twilight event at Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s Vintage Village, returns next month to captivate audiences.
The 2017 theme, POP!, explores contemporary ideas of identity, popular culture, fashion, design and photography through artistic interpretations, practices and performances.
“One Night at the Museum is an evening of contemporary art with a twist that’s sure to delight people from all walks of life,” Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said.
“Fairfield City Museum & Gallery has brought together a range of emerging and established artists to respond to the Vintage Village site, giving visitors a unique experience outside of a traditional gallery space.”
Attendees will be able to immerse themselves in a multitude of interactive works, which include a walk-in inflatable planetarium dome complete with twinkling stars and a digital projection that features sound by a traditional Persian composer, pianist and vocalist.
Artist in Residence and recent Archibald Prize finalist Loribelle Spirovski will conduct live portraiture paintings, there will be screenings of short films produced by three local filmmakers, and a responsive installation will spotlight three culturally diverse Western Sydney fashion designers.
The evening also includes creative stations for zine-making, origami and screen-printing of tote bags, plus a vintage Polaroid photo station and live street art demonstration. A selection of multicultural cuisines will be available for those feeling peckish.
POP! will feature works by Keg De Souza, Marian Abboud, Pegah Varamini, Loribelle Spirovski, Maria Tran, Thuy Lanvin, Roxie Vuong, Fairfield High Intensive English Course, Liverpool Girls’ High and Settlement Services International Youth Collective, alongside performances by Powerhouse Youth Theatre, Bankstown Poetry Slam and Word Travels.
