Gyms in Parks returns for another lap

Fairfield City Council’s popular ‘Gyms in Parks’ outdoor exercise program will return this month at St Johns Park oval where outdoor gym equipment was installed in August.
The ‘Gyms in Parks’ program will run for six weeks from 24 October 2017, between 9.30am and 10.30am each Tuesday and Thursday.
Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said the community have embraced the program and encourages people to get outdoors, stay active and utilise the new outdoor gym equipment being installed throughout the City.
“Council has been thrilled by the response from the community to the ‘Gyms in Parks’ program,” Mayor Carbone said.
“The health and wellbeing of our community is one of the most important challenges we face with many residents not getting the recommended amount of physical activity necessary for good health.
“Council is committed to helping our community lead healthy lifestyles and that is why we continue to run our popular outdoor exercise program for those who wish to keep active and enjoy the outdoors.
“We are continuing to upgrade parks across Fairfield City, including the installation of outdoor gym equipment and constructing walking circuit paths, to help the community get fit and healthy.
“If the free ‘Gyms in Parks’ program fuels participants’ appetite for exercise, we encourage them to join Fairfield City Leisure Centres where a variety of fitness classes are available.”
Interested community members are advised to wear comfortable exercise clothes and shoes, a hat and sunscreen. They should also bring water and a towel or gym mat.
The ‘Gyms in Parks’ program was developed to encourage residents to utilise Council equipment and shared pathways. It was rolled out as part of the Fairfield Health Partnership between Council and the South Western Sydney Local Health District.
