Fairfield City Council will host two free community events in early December to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

Council’s celebrations will be held at Bonnyrigg Community Hall on 5 December and Prairiewood Youth and Community Hall on 6 December, each featuring entertainment, music, dancing and a light lunch.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said Council works to ensure all members of the community continue to be supported and included in the community.

“Fairfield City Council is committed to ensuring each and every member of the community feels included and valued as part of our wonderful City,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Over recent years Council has been making major improvements to City infrastructure and facilities such as upgrading pool access and building the fully accessible Fairfield Youth and Community Centre. Council will continue to work towards ensuring everyone in our City has equal opportunities through accessibility and mobility improvements.

“Council also released its Disability Inclusion Action Plan in August this year, which outlines a number of ways we will work with community partners to improve opportunities for people with disability, such as better access to meaningful employment, Council services and events.”

Council aims to enhance positive community attitudes of people with disability, a key action included in Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan.

“With support from the Seniors Services Interagency and The Parks Community Network, our International Day of People with Disability celebrations will celebrate people of all abilities and how everyone contributes to making our City a wonderful place to live, work and play,” Mayor Carbone said.

“I encourage all members of the community to come along and join in the fun, with entertainment provided for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.”
