Christmas tree lighting in Fairfield.

Christmas is just around the corner, so to get residents in the Christmas spirit Fairfield City Council has planned a host of fun activities throughout Fairfield City.

The festivities start on Friday 1 December with the Canley Heights Children’s Christmas Party. Supported by local businesses and Canley Heights Restaurant Committee, the Children’s Christmas Party is a community favourite and always draws crowds.

On Thursday 7 December Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone switches on the lights to the City’s Christmas tree in Epoch Plaza, on the corner of Station and Nelson streets in the Fairfield City centre.

“Council’s annual Christmas event at Epoch Plaza will be fun for the whole family,” Mayor Carbone said. “From 6.30pm there will be a range of activities, including carols sung by the Mary MacKillop College Choir, a petting zoo, balloonist and, of course, Santa will pay a visit with Rudolf and Toy Soldier to check on who’s been good.”

Christmas celebrations will also be held in Canley Vale Town Centre and Freedom Plaza, Cabramatta.

“Council is also proud to host special Christmas storytimes, craft and babytime sessions at our libraries, as well as carols and craft events at Fairfield City Museum and Gallery,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We also support a number of community events, such as the carols at Horsley Park Reserve on Saturday 9 December.

“And don’t forget our fantastic fireworks – Illuminate – on New Year’s Eve as seven sites across the local government area simultaneously launch fireworks at 9pm. Fairfield City residents of will be able to view some spectacular fireworks from their very own backyards, no matter where they live.

“I encourage everyone to head out and enjoy the festive celebrations with friends and family.”
