Welcome The Year of The Rooster in Fairfield City

2017 is Year of The Rooster.

Cabramatta will come to life this weekend as Fairfield City celebrates one of the most important cultural events in South East Asia, Lunar New Year.

Fairfield City Council will welcome the Year of the Rooster by hosting two days of celebrations at Freedom Plaza, Cabramatta, on 11 and 12 February from 9am to 4pm.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said Fairfield City was proud to host such an important festival for families in our community and from across Sydney.

“Cabramatta will have family friendly entertainment over the whole weekend to welcome in the Year of the Rooster. The cultural festivities will feature the God of Fortune, Lion Dancing and loads of exciting entertainment for the whole family.

“I am also excited that the Free Flight Bird Show will return to Cabramatta this year. Their interactive performances and rainforest display were a highlight at last year’s Lunar New Year festivities and will be again in 2017.

“People will be captivated by Australia’s beautiful bird species as they fly over the heads of the audience. It is an amazing opportunity to get up close and personal with Boobook Owls, Nankeen Kestrel, Barn Owls and even Masked Owls.

“Our stage will feature beautiful renditions of cultural performances by our Indonesian and Vietnamese dance groups, musical talents of students from our local high schools and a magical experience performed by The BlackTies magicians.

“Families can try traditional New Year foods at the many restaurants, grocers and specialty stores waiting to be discovered in not only Cabramatta, but also Canley Vale and Canley Heights.”

Cabramatta is just 45 minutes by train from the Sydney CBD and the station is in the heart of the shopping and dining precincts.
