Fairfield City celebrates seniors

Published Thursday, 24th March 2016

Fairfield City Council will host a number of events to celebrate and honour our seniors as part of the 2016 NSW Seniors Festival from Friday 1 April to Sunday 10 April.

Seniors week encourages seniors to remain active, socially connected and improve lifestyle through new experiences.

The theme for 2016 is ‘Grow Young’, highlighting the energy and experience of our older residents and their ability to keep growing, learning, laughing and be inspired.

This year the Seniors Festival will cross over with the beginning of Youth Week, to encourage intergenerational activities and to help all people, young and old, make connections and learn from each other. Members of the Fairfield Youth Advisory Committee will be volunteering at a number of our events to provide support to our older residents and promote dialogue between generations.

2016 Seniors Fair and Expo

Thursday 7 April, Fairfield Forum Shopping Centre
10am to 2pm

Fairfield City Council will host a Fair and Expo at the Fairfield Forum Shopping Centre with a number of fun activities, exercise demonstrations, entertainment, dancing and information stalls. Our seniors will be able to find information about diverse subsidised government programs that can support and assist frail older residents to keep living independently at home, including home modifications, domestic assistance, personal care, food services and many more.

The expo aims to increase awareness that many seniors live active, fulfilling and productive lives in the community. It will also provide information to seniors about the range of healthy and recreational activities on offer to help increase well-being and encourage better lifestyle choices for local seniors.
