New venue for Home Library Service Christmas Party

Fairfield City Council’s Open Libraries will host its annual Christmas Party for Home Library Customers at an alternative venue this year.

Because of upgrades taking place at the usual venue, Whitlam Library Cabramatta, the event will be held at Nalawala Sustainability Hub at Fairfield Showground.

Fairfield City Open Libraries has hosted the Christmas function every year for the past 40 years.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said the party allowed Home Library Service customers to mingle with others, enjoy a Christmas lunch and have a laugh or two.

“Home Library Service members are unable to visit a library because they might be frail, have a long-term illness or disability and they do not have anyone to visit the Library on their behalf,” Mayor Carbone said.

The party initially started as a casual lunch affair, with staff bringing plates of food and sharing the festive season. This year, attendees will be treated to a fully catered affair, with professional wait staff and catering.

Entertainment will be provided by musician Lance Smith and there will be a visit by Santa, who will give gifts to all attendees.

Volunteer bus drivers will use Council’s community buses to transport Home Library Service customers to and from the event.
