Fairfield City Council celebrates independence with time capsule ceremony
Published Monday, 19th December 2016
Fairfield City Council has celebrated its independence as a stand-alone Council following NSW Council amalgamations by burying a time capsule to be opened in 2079.
Mayor Frank Carbone was joined by City councillors and Council staff as he announced the importance of Fairfield being determined as Fit for the Future. The buried time capsule was engraved with instructions to open in May 2079, to celebrate the 100th anniversary since the declaration of the City of Fairfield.
“This is a momentous occasion for the City of Fairfield, not unlike the year 1979 when our region was first declared the City of Fairfield,” Mayor Carbone said.
“The time capsule contains Fit for the Future documentation and other items held dear to Council staff and community members, each highlighting Fairfield City as a wonderful and diverse place to live, work and play, at present and into the future,” he continued.
The time capsule is being placed in Council’s new Reflection Garden, a staff memorial garden located on the right of Fairfield City Council’s Administration Centre.
