Fairfield City Council has been made aware of several companies and individuals representing themselves as the Council, or to be operating on its behalf.

Council is in receipt of information regarding a company purporting to represent Council in regard to fire safety equipment inspections, as well as a letter being distributed on Council letterhead making demands about residential driveways, specifically relating to surface material, proximity of letterboxes and the number of vehicles parked in a driveway.

Council does not hold any contracts with private firms to carry out fire safety inspections. All fire safety inspections are completed by Council officers who carry Council photo identification. Should any person claim to be a Council employee, ask to see their photo identification.

Regarding residential driveways:

  • Mailboxes must be located in accordance with the requirements of Australia Post, not Fairfield City Council.
  • Council does not require existing driveways to be altered. New developments may have conditions requiring the driveway to be coloured or patterned concrete.
  • Council does not require existing parking arrangements to be altered unless they are not complying with consent.
  • Contact Council on 9725 0222 regarding parking arrangements and driveway surfacing if you are unsure of your compliance.

If you have any doubts about the authenticity of any communications you receive in Council’s name, or of the authority of companies or individuals claiming to represent Council, please contact Council on 9725 0222.
