Library and Information Week 2017 takes place from 22 to 28 May and Fairfield Open Libraries will bring new meaning to the word ‘celebrate’ with a variety of events.

This year’s theme, Celebrate, aims to raise the profile of libraries and information service professionals (librarians) in Australia and recognise the wide range of services libraries offer to the community.

Mayor of Fairfield City, Frank Carbone, encourages all residents to get involved and celebrate this week in the many activities that are lined up, including National Simultaneous Storytime.

“National Simultaneous Storytime took place in more than 3,000 locations and involved over half a million people last year,” Mayor Carbone said.

“The week of events is an exciting way to engage young children and show them how much fun reading can be, as well as providing an opportunity to promote the value of reading and literacy at education hubs like the Fairfield City Open Libraries network.”

Each year as part of Library and Information Week a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously across many locations that include libraries, schools and more.

For the 2017 celebrations, Fairfield City Open Libraries will hold regular story time sessions and read The Cow Tripped Over the Moon, written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
