Fairfield City local Deric Ly is one step closer to his goal of raising $10,000 in funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave thanks to Fairfield City Council’s formal support, granted at last night’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
Council voted to donate $500 from the Councillor Community Fund to the Leukaemia Foundation on behalf of Mr Ly, who has currently raised $7000.
To help Mr Ly raise awareness of the disease the Mayor of Fairfield City, Frank Carbone, will attend Freedom Plaza on Friday 13 March, 12 noon and shave Mr Ly’s head.
The Mayor of Fairfield City, Frank Carbone, said that he was proud to be supporting such a worthy cause.
“More than 12,000 Australians will develop leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma this year – or one person every 46 minutes,” Mayor Carbone said.
“To further support this cause Council will make another four donations of $100 each to community members who are willing to come to Freedom Plaza, along with Deric, and have their hair shaved by me.
“I encourage everyone to come along to Freedom Plaza on 13 March and support this cause by fundraising or donating. Funds raised will help find better treatments and cures, support families and patients with a free home-away-from-home near hospital during their treatments and provide transport to appointments,” said Mayor Carbone.
To register to have your hair shaved by Mayor Carbone on Friday 13 March, 12 noon please contact Council on 9725 0203 by Friday 6 March, 2015.
The World's Greatest Shave is an annual event run by the Leukaemia Foundation where people come together to raise money and support people with blood cancers.
