Fairfield City Museum and Gallery invites submissions for its 2015 Artist in Residence program.

Fairfield City Museum and Gallery is inviting artists in the Fairfield Local Government Area to submit expressions of interest for its 2015 Artist in Residence program.

The program provides a total of $5000 towards artist fees and materials as well as a creative space to produce new work.

Artists who practice in a range of mediums are welcomed, including but not limited to visual arts, contemporary sculpture and installations, mixed media work and photography. Indigenous artists and artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said this was a wonderful opportunity for artists in Fairfield.

“The Artist in Residence program is a great stepping stone for artists. It provides an opportunity for artists to learn, refine their skills and build their careers,” Mayor Carbone said.

“It is also a great thing for Fairfield City, fostering the growth of arts and culture in our area and providing beautiful, insightful exhibitions for our community to enjoy.

“I encourage all artists in the area to apply and make the most of this opportunity,” said Mayor Carbone.

The residency will be from September 2015–February 2016, culminating in an exhibition shown in the Stein Gallery for 12 weeks beginning in May 2016.

Artists should consider proposals for work based on the Museum & Gallery’s unique social history collection, the site of the museum and gallery or the multicultural makeup of Fairfield City.

To apply, artists should submit a copy of their CV and a brief proposal of their intended work to Helen Johnson, Social History and Exhibitions Curator at hjohnson@fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au or by post to PO Box 2464, Smithfield NSW 2164. Applications are due by close of business Friday 27 March 2014.

For further information, contact Helen Johnson, Council’s Social History and Exhibitions Curator 9609 3993.
Fairfield City Museum and Gallery is located at 634 The Horsley Drive Smithfield.
