Film screening - Freedom Stories

In recognition of Refugee Week 2017, Fairfield Open Libraries will be screening an award winning documentary Freedom Stories on Friday 23 June, 11am-1pm at the Whitlam Library Cabramatta.

Freedom Stories explores the achievements and stories of former ‘boat people’ who arrived from the Middle East seeking asylum in Australia around 2001.

Mayor of Fairfield City, Frank Carbone, says the documentary is very insightful to what some of the asylum seekers had to go through to get to Australia and eventually become citizens.

“Everyone has a story to tell about how they came to Australia,” said Mayor Carbone.

“For many the story is of happy memories and for many it can be of a difficult and trying time in their life.

“This film acknowledges the struggles that many have faced in relocating to another country.

“I encourage everyone to attend this filming and connect with the struggles that many of our neighbours have endured to become fellow Australians.

The film screen is free and tea, coffee and refreshments will be available.
