Local soccer clubs, schools and residents now have access to more fun fitness and health opportunities, with a new futsal court at Emerson Park in Wetherill Park.
Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said: “Emerson Park complex is already a recreational jewel in our City packed with tennis courts, full size soccer fields, a parkour training area, a skate park, walking and cycling tracks.
“The new futsal court was adapted from an existing tennis court as a response to the community’s changing recreation needs and desires,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Futsal is a popular sport within our community and Council is thrilled to be able to provide an extra all weather facility to help people get out and about and get healthy.
“The futsal court is surrounded by inward facing banners on the fence that has artwork featuring visuals of a roaring energetic crowd. The artwork is designed to provide players on the field with a unique stadium feel and creates an exciting atmosphere and energy in the court.
“In recognition of the local soccer clubs’ importance to our community, each local club’s logos also decorate the artwork.
“This is yet another example of Council using existing resources wisely and saving money for the benefit of the community.”
Futsal court bookings are necessary and can be made by calling Council on 9725 0222. Fees are $30 per hour for community users and $65 per hour for commercial users.
The futsal court was joint funded between Fairfield City Council ($30,000) and the Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme ($20,000).
