Council keeping check on children’s safety

Published Thursday, 23rd April 2015

Fairfield City Council will run three, free child-restraint checking days to help residents keep their children safe when travelling by car.

The days will provide the opportunity for residents to have their vehicle child restraints checked and correctly fitted free of charge by an RMS Authorised Restraint Fitter.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said having a child car seat correctly installed and properly adjusted greatly improved the safety of children travelling in vehicles.

“A child who is properly secured in an approved child car seat is less likely to be injured in a car crash than one who is not,” Mayor Carbone said.

“To ensure optimum safety, all child restraints should be professionally fitted by an Authorised Safety Restraint Fitter and in accordance to the manufacturer’s instructions.

“If you have obtained your car seat second-hand and the instructions are missing, or aren’t sure if you have installed it correctly and would like peace of mind, these days are ideal for you.”

In addition to the Child Restraint Fitting Days, Fairfield City Council also issues 30 free child-restraint fitting vouchers to residents each month. The voucher entitles residents to one free child-restraint fitting service at Council’s chosen Authorised Safety Restraint Fitter.

To obtain a voucher, call Council on 9725 0222 on the first working day of each month.

Children up to the age of seven must be secured in a height or age appropriate child safety seat when travelling in a car. For further information on child restraints visit
