Youth Advisory Committee applications now open
Published Monday, 1st June 2015
Applications are open for the Fairfield City Council Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) for 2015/16.
Are you 14-24 years old and want to help make Fairfield City an even better place for young people?
Want to learn leadership, event management and media skills while networking with other young people?
Then apply for the Fairfield City Council Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) for 2015/16.
YAC focuses on raising awareness of local youth issues, advocating on behalf of young people and creates opportunities to contribute to the planning of Council’s Youth initiatives and major events.
Youth Advisory Committee members represent the young people of Fairfield at forums, conferences and consult with peak bodies, Government agencies and community groups.
Through involvement in the Youth Advisory Committee, young people are provided access to training, workshops, mentoring programs, and work placement opportunities. YAC members are also an integral part of the Bring It On! Festival each year.
As festival ambassadors, YAC members gain a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to the biggest Youth Week event in NSW.
YAC Convener Bridget Dutoit says her time volunteering with YAC has helped her realise her potential and inspired her to aim high for her future.
“Being a part of the Fairfield City Youth Advisory Committee during high school has allowed me to gain a better understanding of the world around me,” Bridget said. “It has given me some great opportunities and helped me identify career options”.
The Youth Advisory Committee has been involved in some high-profile events and initiatives recently, including the Fairfield Youth and Community Centre and Fairfield Adventure Park projects.
The Youth Advisory Committee is seeking young people from all backgrounds who are passionate about representing the youth of Fairfield. Former YAC members have gone on to be youth workers, events workers, lawyers, teachers and business people.
Applications close at 4.30pm on Monday 15 June 2015. Visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/youth for more information and how to apply.
