Time to be heard on future of Fairfield City

Published Tuesday, 7th July 2015

Community and stakeholders have until Friday 31 July 2015 to provide further comments on Council’s proposal to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART).

Council is urging the residents of Fairfield City to make its preference to stand alone loud and clear by providing direct feedback to the IPART.

In October 2014, the State Government released its Fit for the Future Reform Package. It required all NSW councils to lodge submissions responding to recommendations put forward by the Independent Local Government Review Panel (Panel) relating to amalgamations.

The Panel’s preferred option was an amalgamation between Fairfield City and Liverpool City Councils.

An overwhelming 91% of residents did not support an amalgamation and Fairfield City Council. Council listened to the community and submitted a stand-alone proposal to IPART.

IPART has to report to the Minister for Local Government by 16 October 2015 on whether councils are ‘Fit’ or ‘Unfit’. The Government’s intention after that time remains unclear.

Direct feedback provided by the community is essential to ensure that Council’s submission is given the necessary consideration in the context of the clear wish of our residents.

Fairfield City Council’s Improvement Proposal and Business Case is available on IPART's website.

Comments can be submitted to IPART online
