Council car park app an Australian first

Fairfield shoppers are being invited to join an innovative, Australia-first ticketless parking system at Nelson Street Car Park in Fairfield.

The Blue Dot Parking application (app) is like a parking meter on your mobile.

For people with a smart phone (iPhone or Android) and who park at Nelson Street regularly, the app will make parking simple. Users will be able to pay for parking using their smart phone in three easy steps:

· Download the free Blue Dot Parking app and register your details

· Enter the car park – the app will recognise you, open the boom gate and start your parking session.

· When leaving the car park, the app will again recognise you, open the boom gate and securely charge your allocated credit/debit card with the appropriate fee for the length of your parking stay.

Blue Dot Parking staff will be on hand at the Nelson Street Car Park from Monday 31 August to explain how the ticketless system works and help to set up the app.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said the Blue Dot Parking App was another example of how Council was embracing technology and bringing to residents another Australia first.

“Last week we launched the Australia-first Fairfield Open Libraries program,” Mayor Carbone said. “We’re now offering regular users of Nelson Street Car Park the means to make paying for parking simple. With this app, all customers will have to do is drive in and drive out again.

“The system will allow drivers who have the app loaded to their device to approach the boom gate, which will automatically identify them as customers and open. Similarly, on exit, the user will be identified and the boom gate will automatically open.”

Depending on the customer and the parking rules, if there is a charge, it will be charged directly to their registered debit or credit card. If there is no charge, the customer will be able to drive out safely.

Mayor Carbone said customers would no longer have to queue for tickets, pay cash into machines or worry about finding their ticket if they misplace it.

There also is an option for customers to have their parking fee receipted.
