Every dog can have their day at our City’s biggest and newest dog park at Fairfield Showground.

The $250,000 dog park was funded by Fairfield City Council, Federal and State governments through the Western Sydney City Deal Liveability Fund and was officially opened on 28 May.

The off-leash park allows for dogs of different sizes to enjoy exercise safely with their owners, in three separate fenced areas. One section will be set aside for hire by dog clubs, dog agility training and police dog training.

Double-gated entries ensure dogs are kept safe and secure while others enter and exit the park; while seating, shelters and drinking stations have been included for the comfort of dogs and their owners.

The park is centrally-located in our City, with plenty of parking and amenities for the comfort of park visitors.

Mayor Carbone said Fairfield Showground is for all residents, even four-legged ones.

“The Fairfield Showground dog park is our City’s fifth off-leash park, and also our biggest. It is centrally-located for the convenience of all families.

“There are more than 43,600 dogs in our City and we want them to have every opportunity to be fit and healthy while staying safe. “Owning a dog and keeping them fit and active is a great way for all of us to stay fit and healthy ourselves. Council is committed to helping locals keep their pets healthy and be responsible pet owners.

“Council has plans to open more dog parks across our City, including at Brenan Park in Smithfield. We want there to be spaces for families and their dogs that are easily accessible, no matter where you live.

“This is just another way we are opening up Fairfield Showground to residents and making our City such a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Work is also continuing on other improvements at Fairfield Showground. The all-abilities playground at Deerbush Park and People’s Globe are close to completion, and work has also started on the new 1000-seat pavilion overlooking the elite turf sports field.

Work is also continuing on a network of walking and cycling paths around the showground that connect to the various showground facilities.
