Man’s best friend will soon have a piece of Fairfield Showground to call their own, with work underway on the City’s biggest off-leash dog park.

From Pugs to Pointers, Dachshunds to Dobermans, the park will allow for dogs of different sizes to enjoy exercise safely with their owners, in three separate fenced areas. One section will be set aside for hire and could be used for dog clubs, dog agility training and police dog training.

Double-gated entries will ensure dogs are kept safe and secure while others enter and exit the park; while seating, shelters and drinking stations will be included for the comfort of dogs and their owners. Vehicle parking will also be included.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the new dog park is sure to get tails wagging.

“Fairfield Showground is for everyone, even our four-legged family members,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Owning a dog and ensuring they stay fit and healthy is an important responsibility, and Council is committed to helping locals be responsible pet owners.

“This multi-ring park will mean that dogs of all sizes will be able to use the park at the same time in safety.

“This will be the City’s fifth off-leash dog park, and also our biggest. We want there to be spaces for families and their dogs that are easily accessible, no matter where you live in our City.

“The Showground was chosen as the perfect site for the Dog Park, as it’s situated in the centre of the City, has plenty of parking and amenities,” he said.

“This is just another way we are opening up Fairfield Showground to residents and making our City such a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Work is also continuing on other improvements at Fairfield Showground. The all-abilities playground at Deerbush Park is close to completion, and work has also started on the new 1000-seat pavilion overlooking the elite turf sports field. Work is also continuing on a network of walking and cycling paths around the showground that connect to the various showground facilities.

Work on the dog park is expected to be completed by May 2021.
