Fairfield City Council has scored a massive goal for the City and local football fans with confirmation A-League expansion club Macarthur FC will use Fairfield Showground as its training base for the coming season.

The Showground’s newly-developed elite sports facilities will give Macarthur FC the edge when it begins training for its first year in the top-tier Australia football competition in September. It establishes a local connection with the most northern parts of the club’s catchment area.

The Showground’s facilities have been created with grassroots and professional level sports in mind, and will remain available for the whole community and local sporting clubs to hire.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone welcomed Macarthur FC to the City and encouraged locals to get behind the new team.

“Welcoming Macarthur FC to Fairfield Showground as a training base is a proud moment for our City. It showcases the importance of this wonderful facility in providing high class facilities and reinforces the investment in the Showground. There is something here for everyone” Mayor Carbone said.

“Fairfield Showground was always envisaged to be a place for the whole community to enjoy – for elite and grassroots sports teams, for families to come together to kick a ball around and for visitors from across Sydney to come and enjoy one of the many festivals and concerts that will be held here.

“It’s great to have Macarthur FC as a hirer of the Showground’s facilities, and they’re not alone. The Showground continues to be made available to all codes, all sports and all levels. They join a long list of hirers who are making the most of the great facilities we have on offer in the heart of our City.

“We want everyone to have access to the best facilities available. That’s why Council has created this regional multicultural and sporting centre of excellence.

With preparations well underway for the club’s first pre-season, Macarthur FC Head Coach Ante Milicic said Fairfield Showground will give his team a competitive edge.

“Providing the players with these first-class facilities, enables us to have the best preparation for our inaugural season,” Mr Milicic said.

“The training fields at Fairfield Showground will provide the coaching staff and players with a great advantage when planning for each session.”

Fairfield Showground’s transformation includes a FIFA-accredited synthetic pitch, an elite turf sporting field, festival arena suitable for AFL and cricket matches, multipurpose amenities building, lighting upgrade and covered festival space.
