Make a difference this Christmas

Fairfield City Open Libraries customers and residents can help make a big difference to needy families this Christmas by donating to Christmas Giving Trees set up at each of the library branches.

Residents can leave messages of support and Christmas cards as well as donate new toys, canned food items or other gifts that are packaged as donations. These donations will be given to new refugees and migrants, and families in need this holiday period.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the Christmas Giving Tree will give many new refugees and migrants settling in Fairfield City, as well as local families doing it tough, a memorable and meaningful Christmas.

“Christmas is an important time in Fairfield City. 2020 has been especially hard on many in our community due to COVID-19 and some families are struggling more than others," Mayor Carbone said.

“By participating in the Christmas Giving Tree you are contributing to making this Christmas a positive experience for families and those in need. There’s never been a more important time to give.”

“We want every family to have a very merry Christmas so please donate gifts at any of our libraries.”

Fairfield City Council will work with community organisation Parents Café – Fairfield Inc and Fairfield Uniting Church’s Trolley Drive to distribute the donations to families.

The Christmas Giving Tree is available for donations at Bonnyrigg, Fairfield, Wetherill Park and Whitlam Libraries until 16 December 2020. This will give us time to make sure the donations reach families in time for Christmas.
