Speech Therapy

Speech therapy aims to develop a child’s understanding and use of language. Speech therapy can help a child to express themselves clearly, understand verbal and written language, clearly pronounce words and minimise stuttering. If a child is experiencing difficulty in one or more of these areas, a speech therapist can help them to communicate so they can confidently participate in everyday life.

  • At Fairstart our therapists will
  • Provide an assessment to identify the needs of your child
  • Develop goals with you to ensure your child makes meaningful change
  • Use evidence based practice in therapy
  • Use play based intervention to make therapy fun and engaging for your child
  • Provide resources and strategies to work on your child’s therapy goals at home, day care and/or school

Our team are experienced in providing support with

  • Early intervention
  • Language development
  • Speech development
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices and systems (AAC)
  • Stuttering intervention

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy aims to foster independence in children that need assistance with daily activities such as playing, socialising or completing self-care tasks; such as toileting, dressing, feeding and bathing.

If a child is experiencing difficulty in one or more of these areas, an occupational therapist can assist in helping the child and family to break down the challenging components of the task and build up the child’s skills, so they can participate more fully in their everyday life.

At Fairstart our therapists will:

  • Provide an assessment to identify the needs of your child
  • Develop goals with you to ensure your child makes meaningful change
  • Use evidence based practice in therapy
  • Use play based intervention to make therapy fun and engaging for your child
  • Provide resources and strategies to work on your child’s therapy goals at home, day care and/or school.

Our team are experienced in providing support with:

  • Sensory processing
  • Self-care: feeding issues, toileting and bathing
  • Motor skills development: fine or gross motor and postural control
  • Attention and concentration: starting, finishing and sustaining attention to tasks
  • Executive functioning: understanding instructions and memory

Specialist Teachers

Specialist Teachers are educators with Early Childhood Teaching qualifications. They work with families and children aged 0 to 7 years old, who have an Early Intervention Fund Plan under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Is your child having difficulties in any of these areas of development – social, emotional, self-help, physical (gross or fine motor), thinking and attention, language and literacy? Specialist teachers can help your child in all these areas to become a more confident learner and participant in everyday life.

At Fairstart Early Intervention Specialist Teachers will:

  • Respect and observe the “whole” child and adapt learning experiences to suit each child individually
  • Seek out the strengths and interests of your child as ways to build on his or her self-esteem and motivation to learn
  • Work closely with the family and follow the family’s priorities for their child
  • Support and combine strategies and goals you may have set with Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, etc, in order to enhance consistency with outcomes and learning for your child
  • Provide ideas, information and resources to support your child at home with you or at children’s services, at school or at a range of community settings
  • Conduct informal, functional assessments on your child
  • Support children and families through the Transition to School process, including identifying skill gaps and supporting the child to learn skills to cope with the challenges of school settings
