Fairfield City Council encourages the community to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day activities each year.
Every year the event inspires thousands of Australians to take to their local park, bushland and streets and really help to make a difference to their environment.
People can visit Clean Up Australia if they would like to volunteer at a site that has been registered, or for more information.
Council will assist large groups by providing additional bags and disposable gloves.
Illegal dumping of waste is an environmental crime that attracts severe penalties and is taken seriously by Fairfield City Council.
The Council has had many successful prosecutions.
The maximum penalty in the case of an individual is $1 million and/or seven years' jail.
The maximum penalty in the case of a corporation is $5 million.
Residents can report illegal dumping to Council by calling 9725 0222 or report it online.
You can also call the NSW Environment Protection Authority's Environment Line on 131 555 to report illegal dumping.
