Culinary Carnival a hit with locals
Fairfield's biggest foodie festival Culinary Carnival returned to Cabramatta Town Centre for the first time, and Fairfield City Centre in May. Revellers delighted in Council's popular street party celebrating all things culture and food with celebrated TV presented, chef and author Fast Ed (Cabramatta and Fairfield event); and Italian-Australian actress, opera singer, author, and TV personality Silvia Colloca (Fairfield event) headlining at the event.
Cabramatta was decked out with hawker-style food carts filled with exotic ingredients capturing the suburb’s South East Asia flavours and fresh local produce on Saturday 14 May 2022. Festival goers were treated to the magic of celebrity chef, Fast Ed’s cooking under the Pai Lau Gates, and samplings at Mr Durian’s stall of durian delights. Arthur Street featured a fusion of gypsy beats at the Lolo Lovina Caravan Stage with lion dancing and giant floating bubbles.
Culinary Carnival’s second leg made a return to Fairfield City Centre on 28 May 2022. Fairfield was transformed into a mecca of colour, culture and beats heralded by a roving street party consisting of Rhythm Brazil, Lion Dancing, the Serbian Dance Group, Rhythms of the World and the Cambodian Dance Group. Fast Ed returned with more cooking demonstrations, and special guest Silvia Colloca wowed the crowd with her Mediterranean poached fish. The food fuelled carnival was packed with junior foodie workshops and food stalls serving up authentic paella, Spanish prawn rolls, tacos and Portuguese tarts.
