Back to business

As NSW emerges from lockdown and reaches full vaccination milestones earlier than initially expected, Fairfield is getting back to business.

Our business community has been doing it tough – particularly small business – who are fighting for survival after a lengthy 100-day lockdown and truly need the support of the community. Every dollar spent in the lead-up to the all-important Christmas trading period works twice as hard for retailers, so please support your local businesses as we enter the most important trading period of the year for many.

For Council, it’s business as usual as we continue to invest in quality facilities and services for the community. We are investing $60m in projects this year to support the health and wellbeing of our residents, and enable you to safely travel around our City.

Some of the projects include an upgrade to Cabravale Leisure Centre, with a new pool catering for specialised fitness and rehabilitation programs, plus the expansion and improved accessibility of the gym; upgrades to Endeavour Sports Park, Bareena Park, Fairfield Heights Park, The Avenue Park and Emerson Futsal Courts; Fairfield City HQ community and business hub; and finalising construction of the 55m wave pool at Aquatopia, due for completion in late November.

Council is continuing its beautification program roll out across major roundabouts in the City in preparation for Christmas lights coming in November, as well as improvements to car parks, footpaths and roads. We recently opened Dutton Plaza car park in Cabramatta; an additional 219 car park spaces and new loading area adjoining the existing car park, and works are currently underway to improve the car parks at Prairiewood Leisure Centre and Ascot Street in Canley Heights. Canley Heights is also the first of many town centres to see footpaths receive new paving treatments, as well as the installation of smart street lighting with features like CCTV, Wi-Fi 5G, and power outlets.

This is just a snapshot of some of the exciting things we have planned for our City. You can stay up-to-date with the latest on Council’s projects and more by following us on Facebook.

Lastly, please remember that 40km/h school zones are back in force with schools starting to reopen this week, so please drive safely especially around pedestrians and cyclists near school crossings and bus stops.

Stay safe Fairfield.
