Clear your chemical clutter for free

This Sunday we are once again holding our popular FREE Chemical CleanOut and E-waste Collection Day at Fairfield Showground from 9am to 3.30pm.

We know this important service is very popular. Last year an incredible 1,085 people brought 43 tonnes of waste to Fairfield Showground for disposal. We are hoping to see even more residents at the CleanOut this year. I encourage residents to take the opportunity to clear your homes and garages of clutter by safely disposing of household chemicals and electronic waste at our centrally located Showground, which offers convenient and easy access, and plenty of parking.

It’s a fast and efficient way to remove harmful chemicals from our community and in these difficult times the free day helps families save money in disposal costs. Council pays for the disposal through our waste levy. This is another example of the way we are putting your rates to work. Not only does it help families rid their house of hard to dispose of waste, but it’s good for the environment. The chemicals and e-waste are disposed of safely with help from the NSW EPA and it cuts down on dumping in our City. It stops chemicals ending up in landfill and polluting our soil and waterways, which can have long-term serious impacts on our beautiful plants and wildlife.

You can bring household chemicals and items up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kg of a single item that can’t go in your regular bin, such as solvents, paints, gas bottles, pesticides and herbicides, pool chemicals, old TVs, computers and household appliances. For a full list and more details, go to our Recycling and Other Collection Services page.

Please transport your waste carefully, remain in your vehicle at the collection site and be mindful to follow social distancing. I look forward to seeing everyone down at Fairfield Showground this Sunday. Also, don’t forget the Spring Clean Drop-off Day is coming up on Sunday, 13 September, where you can drop off bulky household items for free. This is in addition to the kerbside collections, recycling service and chemical drop-off day.
