Deerbush Park playground opens next month

Next month Council is opening another amazing park in our City. But this time the park has been specially designed for people of all abilities. It will be the City’s first all-abilities playground.
Deerbush Park playground will be a very special place where people of all abilities will be able to come and play together. It is part of our commitment to develop the Showground into a place where there is something for everyone – to walk, cycle, play, work out, play sport of all levels or celebrate with the community.
There will be a Liberty Swing to allow children in wheelchairs to swing in safety alongside other children, a wheelchair-accessible carousel, ground-level trampoline, a climbing ropes and net course, flying fox, learn-to-ride path, and a climbing net fort with slide. There will also be accessible toilets, plenty of seating and shade, and so much more.
A highlight of the park is the accessible water play space with 13 fun above ground squirters and numerous ground-level bubblers, which have now completed testing. This is a first for a public playground in our City and will be a fun way for families to stay cool in summer. The water play space will be open during daylight hours in warmer months and all water will be recycled and treated to the same quality as pool water.
Adults can also enjoy the park’s new outdoor gym equipment. The park will also connect to the Showground’s new path network, which will provide access to all of the Showground’s facilities as well as an enjoyable exercise option for walkers, cyclists and wheelchairs.
The entire park has been designed around the pre-existing mature trees and shrubs, providing excellent shade for park users and habitat for local birds. Last week we planted 22,000 additional native and locally-sourced plants, including 40 large trees, 1,000 large shrubs and a lot of ground cover. We will plant another 8,000 plants over the next year.
Deerbush Park adds to the variety of fun open spaces in our City and will rank among the likes of Fairfield Adventure Park, Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park, Koonoona Park, Emerson Park and Cabravale Memorial Park as one of our City’s premier green spaces.
