Investing in roads and footpaths

Published on 30 August 2022

We are continually upgrading our City’s local roads and footpaths to help you get around easily and safely.

We have more than 700km of roads in our City and this year we are investing more than $13 million on road improvements, and $4.4 million on 16.2km of new and upgraded footpaths.

Every day, hundreds of thousands of vehicles travel through our City to get people to work and school, visit family and friends, shop and attend sport and leisure activities, so it’s important that our roads are in good shape.

Over the past few weeks, we have completed works on parts of Bareena Street, Canley Vale; Edensor Road, Edensor Park; Nelson Street, Fairfield and Brisbane Road, St Johns Park.

In the next few months we will complete other roadworks in Smithfield, Cecil Park, Wetherill Park, Horsley Park, Fairfield West and Canley Vale.

We recently completed footpath works on Greenfield and Mimosa roads, Greenfield Park and Melbourne and Canberra streets, St Johns Park. In the next few months we will complete other footpath works in Edensor Park, Wetherill Park and Fairfield West.

Footpaths benefit everyone, from encouraging walking for exercise to making it easier to connect you to community facilities such as shopping centres, parks and other areas.

One of my goals is to eventually provide footpaths on at least one side of every street in the City. It’s a big job. Council maintains about 950 kilometres of footpaths and cycleways across the City.
