Spreading the Christmas Spirit

Christmas is a very important time for Fairfield City residents, and it is a celebration we want the whole community to take part in.

Council loves to join with our residents in spreading festive cheer and this holiday season our famous and ever-popular Christmas lights at roundabouts and intersections are delighting residents and evening commuters. The lights have been so popular that this year we have increased the number of intersections with Christmas lights to 17. The lights look amazing at night, making the evening trip home a little more joyous.

I will also light the giant Christmas tree at Epoch Plaza in Fairfield on Thursday, 3 December. While we won’t be able to have our usual community carols celebration because of COVID-19, you can still tune in to Council’s Facebook page from 8pm to see me switch on the lights.

We want you to join us in spreading the Christmas spirit by decorating and lighting up your homes and entering our Light Up Fairfield Christmas Lights competition. Take a photo of your home in lights and share it to Council’s

Facebook page @FairfieldCity or my page @FC.FrankCarbone between Monday 30 November and Sunday, 13 December. Not only are there exciting prizes to be won, you will be spreading Christmas joy to your streets and neighbourhoods. Seeing houses all lit up, spreading Christmas cheer throughout the neighbourhood, is one of my favourite parts of the holiday season. I love driving around in December to see the amazing displays.

Last year we received lots of great entries and I can’t wait to see this year’s homes in lights.

You can also spread cheer to less fortunate families by donating to our Christmas Giving Trees at Bonnyrigg, Fairfield, Wetherill Park and Whitlam Libraries until 16 December 2020. Residents can leave messages of support and Christmas cards as well as donate new toys, canned food items or other gifts that are packaged as donations. These donations will be given to the most needy families in our community, making sure they too can join in the Christmas spirit these holidays.

While it has been a tough year with COVID-19, the spirit of Christmas remains and together we can all make a difference and spread cheer in our City.
