Boosting entertainment in our City

Council is proud of its track record of holding innovative, safe, fun and affordable events in our City. That’s why we have applied to host one of the upcoming Great Southern Nights concerts at Fairfield Showground.

The Great Southern Nights live music events will feature some of Australia’s most popular music acts, including Amy Shark, Birds of Tokyo, Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins and more. We are applying to Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) in an effort to bring one of these concerts to our City.

Fairfield Showground is purpose-built for these sorts of concerts and entertainment. It’s a perfect venue, with a stage, change rooms and back stage facilities, and a large capacity that means we can accommodate big crowds while meeting social distancing requirements.

These sorts of events go to the heart of why we are redeveloping the Showground for south west Sydney and would add to the wide range of events we already hold there.

We know that COVID-19 has caused many families to become isolated, and as restrictions ease we want families to have safe, fun and affordable events to attend.

We are already working with Australian Amusements to hold the drive-in movies at Fairfield Showground, and they are FREE these school holidays exclusively for Fairfield City residents.

Whether you play sport, ride a bike, walk, or attend a major sporting, music and cultural event, we want Fairfield Showground to offer a great day or night out for everyone – and we hope to be able to announce that Fairfield Showground has been selected as a host venue for the Great Southern Nights concerts. I’m sure it would be a huge hit with families who are looking forward to the COVID-safe return of live entertainment.
