Seniors week

Seniors are a large proportion of our community and play a significant role.

The ageing of the population is the most significant demographic change currently taking place in our City.

With more than 32,000 residents over the age of 60 in Fairfield City, making up more than 17% of our population, seniors are a large proportion of our community and play a significant role in continuing to make our City a great place to live.

Seniors Week is an important time to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of our senior citizens.

Many in retirement have more time and capacity to spend volunteering at our schools, hospitals, libraries and community centres. Some have caring roles within their families, looking after grandchildren and great-grandchildren to allow parents to return to work.

They are the heart of many community groups and the driving force keeping these organisations achieving great outcomes, and their knowledge and experience is a great resource to our City.

There are a number of activities being hosted across Fairfield City during seniors week with a focus on encouraging our senior residents to stay healthy and active in our community and to increase social opportunities to connect.

I want to thank and recognise our senior residents for their significant contributions to our City and wish all a happy and successful Seniors Week!

World’s Greatest Shave

On Friday 13 March, I have the great honour and privilege of shaving the heads of four brave volunteers with the assistance of key members of our community in the effort to raise money as part of the World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Deric Ly, Wendy Callander, Nick Huynh and a local monk will have their locks lopped on Friday from 12pm at Freedom Plaza in Cabramatta.

With 31 Australians every day being given the devastating news that they have leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood disorder, this is a great cause to support. I encourage everyone to come and join me on Friday for this event.
