Council wins prestigious award

I am extremely honoured and proud to tell you that Fairfield City Council has been named the most progressive council in NSW in the City and Regional Councils category of the A R Bluett Memorial Awards.

This award is the pinnacle in local government awards and recognises the hard work and achievements by this Council over the past 12 months, but in reality it has taken many years of hard work and planning to get to where we are today.

This award is for the people of Fairfield City. It really shows how hard we have been working together to transform Fairfield to a better place, and deliver a place we can be proud to call home.

We have achieved all of this while keeping our residential rates among the lowest in NSW, and recording a $9 million budget surplus for the financial year, which allows us to continue to bring major investment in infrastructure to our City.

It also allows for a big investment in health and wellbeing and attracting people to the great outdoors, with attractions like Aquatopia, walking paths, gyms in parks and Fairfield Adventure Park, just to name a few.

We’ve established a $10 million fund to upgrade many parks; revolutionised our libraries with extended opening hours, new technology and learning opportunities; and developed Dutton Plaza to provide income for Council to deliver more services for the community.

We also began work on transforming Fairfield Showground into a Multicultural and Sporting Centre of Excellence, including new playing fields, festival space, grandstand seating, amenities buildings, indoor sports centre, walking and cycling paths, playground, relaxation areas and exercise equipment.

The award also importantly recognises quality everyday services, including waste, roads and parks management; library services, leisure centres; and affordable early education services, with 1,929 children attending each week at break-even cost for Council.

Council also proudly supports its diverse community through fun and inclusive events and festivals throughout the year, including Cabramatta Moon Festival, Icetopia, Lunar New Year, Bring It On! youth festival, Culinary Carnivale and our New Year’s Eve celebration,  Illuminate.

There is still much to do and I’m committed that we continue to get on with the job making Fairfield City the best council in NSW in which to live, work, and raise a family.
