Christmas comes to Fairfield City

Christmas is a special time of year. A time when families come and spend time together to celebrate what is important to them.

In Australia, Christmas has always been a strongly celebrated and cherished tradition and this year is no different in Fairfield City. Council will be spreading the Christmas cheer across our City over the coming weeks.

This year Council will be continuing our popular decoration of roundabouts with lights. They look amazing at night, making the evening trip home just that little more joyous. For the first time, we are lighting up Horsley Drive near Horsley Park Reserve with roadside tree lights and a Christmas display at the park. Council will flick the switch on Friday.

Tomorrow, Thursday 6 December, I will be switching on the lights to the Christmas tree in Epoch Plaza, on the corner of Station and Nelson streets in the Fairfield city centre. This event will be fun for the whole family. From 6.30pm there will be a petting zoo, balloonists, carols performed by Mary MacKillop Catholic College, special appearances by Rudolph and Paddington Bear, jumping elves, and a visit from Santa. Come down for a couple of hours and enjoy the fun.

Christmas celebrations will also be held in Canley Vale town centre on Friday from 12pm to 2pm, Canley Heights Children’s Christmas Party from 3pm-7pm, and Fairfield City Museum & Gallery on Saturday from 6pm. On Saturday and Sunday, between 9am and 1pm, Santa will hand out candy canes in Cabramatta’s Freedom Plaza while Southwest Churches Combined perform Christmas carols.

This week I will begin handing out Council’s ever popular calendar for 2019 at shopping centres across the City. You can also get them at Council’s Administration Centre Building, library branches and leisure centres.

There are so many ways to get into the festive spirit in Fairfield City this year. I encourage everyone to get out and about and join us for the fun this holiday season.
